ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY
The
purpose of our Acceptable Use Policy is to ensure that our services are used in
ways that are consistent with the limitations of a shared network and the
standards of our local community and the Internet community. The policy also
aims to ensure that the Internet access resources we provide are used in a
manner that benefits all of the people who use them.
I. GENERAL. You
agree to use our services in a manner that:
- Is ethical and in conformity with community
standards
- Respects the privacy of other users (e.g., you
agree not to intentionally try to obtain passwords, data, etc., from other
users, modify files, or represent yourself as another user without his or
her permission)
- Respects the legal protection provided by
copyright, trade secret, or other laws protecting intellectual property
- Respects the integrity of our system and all
components thereof. For example, you agree not to access or attempt to
access other users' systems, disrupt others' use of the network, or damage
or change our or other users' computer hardware or software in any way,
whether directly or indirectly.
- Does not create routing patterns that are
inconsistent with the effective use of a shared network.
II. SPAM. You agree
not to use our service for spamming. Spamming includes but is not limited to:
- Sending bulk unsolicited messages
- Sending e-mails which provoke complaints from
the recipients
- Sending junk mail
- Using distribution lists that include people who
have not given their permission to be included in such a distribution
process
- Posting commercial ads to Usenet groups that do
not permit them
- Posting articles that contain binary encoded
data to non-binary newsgroups
- Sending excessive and repeated off-topic
messages to newsgroups
- Sending excessive and repeated cross-postings
- Harassing other Internet users including but not
limited to transmitting any threatening, libelous or obscene materials.
III. DIAL-UP SERVICES. We offer unlimited
access to the Internet through some of our dial-up accounts. This means that
you are free to dial into the Internet using our service at any time of the day
or night and on any day of the year, and you may do so on an unlimited basis
for as long as you are at your computer or other Internet access device and are
actively using the connection for e-mail, browsing the Web, chat, etc. Dial-up
service is not intended for long-term connections.
Perhaps the easiest way
to understand what we mean by "dial-up" is to use the analogy of a
telephone call. When you call another party, you keep that connection open for
as long as you need to complete your conversation. However, once you have
completed it, you are expected to hang up and not leave the connection open
"in case" you want to talk with that party again. This same principle
applies to dial-up Internet usage.
Based on our experience
with a large number of users, we interpret a "long-term" connection
to be a session of 4 hours or longer. In the event that your sessions regularly
exceed 4 hours, we reserve the right to charge you; to require that you upgrade
your service to a dedicated connection, or to suspend or terminate your
account.
Also, using any means to
keep a connection open other than through normal Internet usage is not
permitted. If you find that you need a full-time connection, please contact us.
Hi-Speed ADSL connections are available for that purpose
IV.
SERVER USE. Use of a dial-up account for hosting server software operating on
commonly recognized TCP/IP ports is prohibited.
V.
SIMULTANEOUS USE. Use of a username/password by two or more people at the same time
is expressly prohibited. We reserve the right to assess a penalty should this
occur, and to terminate service if this policy is repeatedly violated.
VI.
ACCOUNT RESPONSIBILITY. You agree that any and all activity initiated from your
account is your responsibility. We advise against sharing your password in any
way.
VII.
MEMBER AGE. Members must be 18 years of age or older. Usernames may be issued
for younger users, but membership is to be held in the parent or guardian's
name.
VIII.

Members will provide MONISYS INC. with accurate information at all times.
Members will notify MONISYS INC. of any security breach to or unauthorized use
of their accounts immediately.
IX.

commercial use of MONISYS INC's services without
express written consent.

protect and defend MONISYS INC's rights or property,
or under extreme circumstances, to protect the personal safety of its members
or the public. Members' accounts shall be password protected and members shall
